OCTOBER:
PREGNANCY AND INFANT LOSS AWARENESS MONTH
Each
year over a million families are touched by the tragedy of pregnancy
and infant loss. In the United States, 1 in 100 births ends in
stillbirth. Almost 1 in 100 births results in infant death before
one month of age. 1 in 4 documented pregnancies ends in miscarriage.
It is estimated that as many as 50% of all conceptions are lost
to miscarriage.
In years past, families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss
have had to suffer in silence. Their losses were not understood
or acknowledged. However, families enduring loss need sensitive
caregivers, understanding friends, and supportive families. Education
and awareness are critical to ending the silence and meeting these
needs.
In 1988, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed October as Pregnancy
and Infant Loss Awareness Month throughout the United States.
October 15th is set aside for a “Day to Remember”.
MEMORY
TREE
On Tuesday, December 5, 2006, Haven of Hope & Healing, Inc. will host its 4th Annual Memory Tree at 7:00 pm. Mothers, fathers, siblings, grandparents, family members, and friends are welcome to join us for a ceremonial ornament hanging. As the ornaments are hung, each baby is remembered in a special way. You may receive a personalized glass ornament in the baby's memory for a $10 donation. Hot chocolate and refreshments will be served. While the memory tree ceremony will be hosted at Historic Providence Christian Church in Graham, it is not a church related event.
For more information, please contact us.
If you are unable to attend, but would like to order an ornament, you may have it shipped to you. Please indicate so on the order form.
Our regular monthly support group meeting is usually held on the first Tuesday of each month. We will not be having an actual support group meeting for the month of December. Those who wish to stay after the memory tree ceremony for further sharing are more than welcome to stay as long as you wish!
For your convenience in ordering ornaments, you may download an order form by clicking here.
Memory
Tree - Tuesday, December 6 at 7:00 pm
Location: Providence United Church of Christ
819 North Main Street, Graham
Our
first Memory Tree gathering was held on December 1, 2003. There
were fifteen people in attendance at the ceremony and we had several
orders for ornaments for people who could not attend that night.
Mothers, fathers and grandmothers gathered together to remember
the babies that are so precious to them. Each person shared about
their child or grandchild as they hung their personalized special
ornament on the tree.
A
TASTE OF HEAVEN COOKBOOK
"A Taste of Heaven" memorial cookbook is available.
The price is $18. If
you are interested in purchasing a cookbook, please email or call
us. You
may download an order form here.
Haven of Hope & Healing, Inc. would like to express our appreciation
to all the mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, all
other family members, and friends; who submitted recipes in memory
of your loved ones. We would not have this cookbook if it had
not been for the submission of your delicious recipes. Thank you
for sharing your stories of love and remembrance. It is our hope
that you received some comfort and healing from participating
in this memorial cookbook.
Thank you to the “committee” for your help in getting
this cookbook ready to go to press. When we took on this project,
I had no idea how much work was really involved. Much gratitude
is extended to my mother, Connie Callahan, and friend, Donna McKinney
for helping me proofread each recipe and to Connie for help in
getting the recipes organized and ready to send to the publishing
company.
Thank
you to Rachel McKinney (Donna’s 13 year old daughter) for
creating the beautiful artwork for the cover of A Taste of Heaven
(see right). You took my vision of “heaven” and illustrated
an awesome image of a heaven for all parents to hope for. And
thanks to Paige Haizlip (5 year old daughter of Candace Haizlip)
for your sweet illustration of heaven (see below). My little ladybug,
you are such a blessing to me!
Haven
of Hope & Healing, Inc. would like to thank everyone that
contributed in some way to make this memorial cookbook possible.
We could not have it published it without you!

Through His grace,
Christie Callahan Moser
(Co-founder of Haven of Hope & Healing, Inc.)

WORKSHOP

SCRAPBOOK
WORKSHOP
Do
you have photographs of your baby, a sonogram picture, loving
thoughts, and memories and would love to put them together in
a keepsake book? Come and join other mothers and create a one
of a kind scrapbook of your precious little one. Or if you have
created a scrapbook and would like to share it with others in
a nonjudgmental environment, please join us for this special scrapbook
workshop. Fathers, grandparents and friends are welcome to come
too!
We had our first scrapbook workshop on Thursday, June 3, 2004.
It was a wonderful time of sharing our babies in a caring environment.
Each scrapbook was different and it was endearing to “meet”
one another’s children through the loving journaling and
touching pictures of each baby.
We will have another Scrapbook Workshop Tuesday, August 15, 7:00 - 10:00PM.
